Andy Claborn can take some comfort in that Seiling is returning depth on the offensive and defensive lines, giving the coach room to let senior quarterback Zach McDonald loose.

Seiling’s matchup at Covington-Douglas in Week 2 might be an early power grab in District C-3 and will likely be a factor in shaping the district’s final standings.

Whether Seiling finishes higher, lower or right where expected, Claborn always holds the same expectation for the teams he coaches.

"I think we can compete with anyone,” Claborn said. "If we play well and stay healthy, we have a chance to compete against anyone in our class.”

Who’s No. 1?
District coaches agreed on what team would likely finish on top: defending C-3 champ Timberlake.

The Tigers returning seven starters on both sides of the ball. Timberlake finished 11-1 last season.

"(We want to) go out and perform, and hopefully stay focused,” said coach Brian Severin, entering his 16th year at Timberlake. "Take care of business.”

Although his peers assume Timberlake will finish on top again, Severin understands nothing is certain.

"You never know how injuries are going to play out.
