IRVING, Texas — Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops said Tuesday he would vote in the coaches poll this season after sitting out the controversial 2008 season.

"You don't need to make a point twice," Stoops said.

Stoops said he believes the coaches poll is imperative to the BCS process and is a better option than a panel, for instance, of retired coaches.

Stoops admitted all coaches have an agenda but reiterated his belief that a private ballot encourages more integrity from coaches. His example: Rice fans might also be Texas fans; Tulsa fans might also be OU fans. The Rice or Tulsa coach might face scrutiny from his own fans for voting a certain way.

Stoops' solution: Have every coach vote, but throw out the ballots of the coaches of the top 15 or 20 teams.

Stoops admitted he felt leery last November as the OU-Texas debate raged. UT coach Mack Brown had a vote; Stoops did not.
