John Rohde: Big 12 media days are tame in comparison to SEC's meetings

Since those from the Southeastern Conference rule college football, we Midwest/Southwesterners from the Big 12 must do all we can to keep pace.

It behooves us to impersonate the very best, starting with Media Day.

Therefore, like the masses who cover the SEC, we needed to find out if Oklahoma's Sam Bradford was a unanimous preseason pick at quarterback?

If he wasn't, we needed to determine who besmirched the 2008 Heisman Trophy winner by daring to choose someone else?

Far more importantly, we also needed to ask if Bradford is a virgin.

Tuesday was that day.

The results:

- Bradford was not a unanimous preseason pick as Big 12 first-team quarterback. Several pollsters selected Colt McCoy from Texas.

- Bradford never was asked if he was saving himself for marriage, at least not during his 35-minute interview session with print media.

There is a time and a place for such a personal question. SEC Media Day was neither the time nor place, and the same holds true for Big 12 Media Day.

Bradford was aware of what was asked last week of Florida virgin quarterback Tim Tebow, who handled the incredibly awkward moment like a champ.

"To me, that's crossing the line," Bradford said. "There's a line that should be drawn. I feel like it was definitely overstepped with that question.

"I'll talk football all day, but there are certain things about my personal life, or about my family, that I just don't feel that everyone needs to know."

So there you have it. The virgin question was not asked and not answered.

Look, there's no denying the SEC rules the roost.

So it goes when you've claimed three straight BCS titles, four of the last six, and you possess a ridiculously talented Florida team again this season.
