With the graduation of last year’s starter, Christian Heritage Academy is looking for a new quarterback as it begins practice Tuesday. Three players are in the mix: senior Michael Tinker, junior Carter Champion and freshman Bryant Hodge.

"We’ve got three guys competing, and we’ll see how things develop in practice,” CHA coach John Merrell said.

"It will be a full-on competition for the job.”

Smith a big factor at Crescent
Senior Torey Smith (6-2, 190) will start at quarterback and free safety for Crescent and should be able to capitalize on his athletic ability more than ever.

"He’s probably the best raw athlete to come here in a long time,” coach J.L. Fisher said.

"He has a great arm, a very good huddle presence and he’s the type of player who can make a lot of plays with his feet. He doesn’t have the best technique out there, but he’s very athletic.
