With a resume that dates back to construction of Liberty (now Chase) Tower in the early 1970s, Klay Kimker is following an old adage in planning for Devon Energy’s new corporate headquarters — "measure twice, cut once.”

Kimker, Devon’s vice president of administration, said he learned from construction of Liberty Tower that if one doesn’t have time to do things right the first time, then that person will face spending even more time fixing mistakes once the task is done.

Kimker and other project officials said they are going to extra lengths to get things right as they provided an in-depth look at specifications for the 54-story, $750 million tower at Thursday’s meeting of the National Campus FM Technology Conference at the Cox Convention Center. Kimker said site work is set to begin in October.

What's planned for the skyscraper?

The following details were shared by John Woods, project manager with Hines development:

The tower's height is now estimated at 908 feet, consisting of a glass skin that would cover 16 football fields.
