STILLWATER — Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford is kicking off the school year with a message to students to make smart decisions about alcohol. The second-year coach spoke to an overflow crowd at the Student Union Ballroom on Tuesday night, taking over the marquee speaking role from former Cowboys coach Eddie Sutton. Sutton spoke at the event its first two years after he was forced to take a leave of absence following a drunk driving crash and later retired.
Ford said he met with his new freshmen basketball players on the opening day of classes Monday and told them he doesn't have all that many rules, but wants them simply to make the right decisions. He thinks the same message applies to Oklahoma State students. Copyright 2009 The Associated Press.
