McALESTER – A grand jury has been picked to investigate other alleged sex crimes by David Harold Earls, 65. The jury of eight men and four women, plus alternates of two men and one woman, will hear testimony beginning at 9 a.m. Monday at the temporary Pittsburg County Courthouse, said Charlie Price, spokesman for Attorney General Drew Edmondson. Earls was convicted of raping a 4-year-old girl and is jailed until Sept. 24 after plea bargaining a one-year sentence. The length of the sentence, which includes 19 years suspended, attracted national attention. This week, subpoenas will be issued compelling witnesses to testify before the grand jury. "I pray to God there isn’t anyone else” who might have been sexually abused, said Earls’ daughter Denise, "If there is, I hope they are strong and will come forward. We are praying ... they can indict him so he never gets out.” Denise Earls said her father raped her when she was 8 years old. Two other relatives have stepped forward to claim abuse by Earls. The grandmother of the 4-year-old rape victim said her daughter has moved out of state, where she has established a relationship with a man who is a positive influence on the children. "They’ve been through hell and back,” she said of her grandchildren.
