McALESTER, Okla. (AP) — A convicted child rapist has appeared before a Pittsburg County grand jury that is investigating new allegations of sex crimes against him.
David Earls told a reporter Tuesday that he planned to testify, but said afterward he couldn't talk about the secret proceeding.
The panel is looking into new accusations that Earls committed lewd and lascivious acts against a child under 14. He was sentenced in May to one year in jail under a plea agreement for the rape of a 4-year-old McAlester girl.
When his sentence drew public outrage, several women came forward with allegations of sexual assault by Earls when they were children.
Alternate jurors left the courtroom, possibly indicating the panel had begun deliberations.
