OU Insider: Sooners seek No. 2 receiver
NORMAN — While Ryan Broyles caught touchdown after touchdown, Oklahoma’s supposed second receiver remained ready in the rain by wrapping a towel around his hands.
Turned out, Adron Tennell never needed them. Not for the first three quarters anyway. Two games in, the Sooners still seek a No. 2 receiver to complement Broyles in the post-Jermaine Gresham era. With Tulsa on deck and Miami in the hole, OU needs somebody to emerge, and quick. "Ryan seemed to make all the big plays,” coach Bob Stoops said. "We need more guys to step up and make plays.” Saturday night, Broyles pasted Idaho State out of the slot with seven receptions, 155 yards and three touchdowns. Double coverage, triple coverage, it didn’t matter. From now on, it will. Tulsa and Miami and every one of OU’s Big 12 opponents possess the athletes and smarts to take Broyles away from freshman quarterback Landry Jones if no other receiver is a credible threat.
