The Oklahoma Department of Human Services on Tuesday issued an emergency order closing a northwest Oklahoma City home day care after a 12-year-old child was found sitting alone in the back seat of a car in a dark garage.

Vickie Thompson’s family child care home at 10100 Donna Court also was cited for exceeding its 12-child limit by one child, for having too many children younger than 4 and for allowing a 12-year-old to walk a younger child to a bus stop down the street without adult supervision.

The child who was left unsupervised in the dark garage was unharmed, a DHS spokeswoman said.

Thompson did not return a telephone call Wednesday seeking a comment.

DHS ordered Thompson to immediately close the child care operation.

She has the option of requesting a hearing on the decision within 10 days.
