Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said he’s still uncertain whether Sam Bradford or Landry Jones will start at quarterback when the Sooners visit Miami Saturday night.
Stoops was asked what Bradford, recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered in the season opener, would have to show coaches in practice the next few days in order to play. “We just have to feel comfortable that he’s healthy, that he feels good enough to make the throws we need to make and (he) is ready to do it,” Stoops said Monday morning during the weekly Big 12 teleconference. “He’s progressing. All his rehab to this point has been positive.” Stoops said he won’t play a cat-and-mouse game. He expects to announce sometime during the week whether Bradford will play. “I’m not much — maybe some people would disagree — on being coy or evasive on stuff,” Stoops said. “I pretty much usually call as it is. When we don’t know, I say we don’t know just yet. I’m not smart enough to deal with all that. “I just kind of call it as it is. That’s what we’ll do here (with Bradford). We’ll just see how the week goes... I think we would know later in the week what Sam’s able to handle and where we feel we’re at with it. I would think it would be earlier than (Saturday).” Stoops said the game plan will be the same for both quarterbacks, regardless of who plays. “It’s not like one is a scrambling, wildcat type of guy and you have a whole different ball game for him,” Stoops said. “As far as game plan that’s not challenging because we’ll have the same one for both of them. “That’s how it’s been the past couple of weeks and it’s worked really well for Landry. He’s a similar thrower and style of guy. In the end it’s just getting each of them the number of snaps to be comfortable and evaluate Sam throughout the week.” Stoops stressed Bradford’s trip to Alabama last weekend to visit Dr. James Andrews was simply another opportunity to gather input. “It was just an extra opinion as much as anything,” Stoops said. “Our (team) guys have been awesome in their evaluations. When it all first happened they got multiple opinions. “Everybody’s (opinions) were pretty much similar and felt our guys were definitely on the right track and doing the right things.
