Norman mentoring program offers a chance to learn new skills

NORMAN — The Norman School District is launching a program that matches local professionals with Advanced Placement students.

The Advanced Placement Partners Program is both a volunteer tutoring and mentoring program, said Donna Walker, director of gifted and Advanced Placement programs.

Partners not only will help students with their school work, but also will show them how the skills they are learning in the classroom translate into real-world careers.

The district is looking for local professionals to participate.

Architects, engineers, medical professionals, writers and artists are just some of the types of partners district officials want to match with students and classes that fit their expertise.
