Oklahoma's food stamp growth called unprecedented

About 15 percent of all Oklahomans and more than 25 percent of children received food stamps in September, according to information released Friday.

The Department of Human Services reported that 11,000 people were added to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in September, bringing the end-of-the-month total to 535,880 people.

The levels of food stamp participation are up more than 25 percent and almost 110,000 people from September 2008, officials said.
