OU offensive guard Brian Simmons out for Texas game

With the good news that slot receiver Ryan Broyles could return to the lineup this weekend against Texas came the bad.

Senior left guard Brian Simmons will be out Saturday, and likely longer, with a ligament injury in his knee suffered during the second half of Oklahoma’s 33-7 win over Baylor.

OU coach Bob Stoops refused to disclose the severity of the injury, nor how long he expected Simmons to be out.

But the injury to the two-year starter is a blow to an offensive line still trying to develop consistency.

With Simmons out, the Sooners will use some combination of junior-college transfer Tavaris Jeffries, true freshman Tyler Evans and sophomore Stephen Good at the two guard spots.

Jeffries has started the last two games at right guard. Evans started there the two games before that. Good, the projected starter before the season at right guard, has been Simmons’ primary backup on the left side.
