Latest homeowner horror unlikely to play in Oklahoma

Sorry for yet another detour from Homeownership Way, folks. Please avoid the orange cones. Just move along.

Nothing to see here in front of this storefront with big TVs reviewing yet another scary story for homeowners, a reality show called "Attack of the Killer Chinese Drywall.”

Across the way at the newspaper racks are some more orange cones. Pick up a paper, but be careful and read the reviews of "Attack of the Killer Chinese Drywall” with a critical eye. They say nothing about Oklahoma.

On the next block at the coffee shop with the free WiFi, it’s the same situation. "Attack of the Killer Chinese Drywall” clips are all over the Internet, especially since some insurance companies are denying homeowner’s claims. Notice the little orange cone icons. Click carefully around them.

The scary stuff is playing out mainly in the Southeast, especially in Louisiana and Mississippi, where Hurricane Katrina hit hard in 2005: walls emitting sulfuric fumes and corroding pipes, destroying TVs and air conditioners, blackening silverware and jewelry, making some people sick, insurance companies denying claims and then not renewing homeowner’s policies.
