Being good and being good at something is not the same thing. If you think one must equal the other, you are setting yourself up for a life of unhappiness and confusion.

Virtue and talent are not mutually exclusive by any means, but if you can’t separate the two, then you probably had a fight with someone about Kanye West.

At this point, he’s probably not even the most recent example, but as I tend to shy away from celebrity news about morons, he’s the one I remember. So let’s pretend someone was in a coma when this went down:

Kanye got up at the MTV Music Video Awards, where they honor the long-dead art of putting music and moving pictures together, and interrupted an acceptance speech by Taylor Swift. It was tacky and stupid and awful to watch, which is why I’ve seen it a dozen or so times.

And half the people in America said, “Kanye is a no-talent hack and a Class-A Moron. He should be pelted with rotten fruit and banned forever from Hardee’s!”

And the other half said, “Kanye is a beautiful, special flower with an amazing gift. He’s just expressing himself and you can’t fault him for that!”

And all of those people are stupid. Because Kanye is both a special flower and a Class-A Moron.
