BROOKS GETS A TECHNICALUpset his team was getting dominated from the opening tip, Thunder coach Scott Brooks ran onto the court to protest an apparent non-call on Durant with 7:08 left in third quarter. It’s only the second technical Brooks has received in 80 games since last November, when he replaced P.J. Carlesimo as coach. "I don’t like our players to make excuses about the referees, which is why I don’t get (technicals),” Brooks said. "We have to fight through the calls. Referees do a great job. Orlando did a good job playing physical basketball. We didn’t match it. I was frustrated. I thought our players needed a jolt. It didn’t work.”
HARDEN, RESERVES GET HOTThe game, which was all but decided after three quarters, had both coaches playing reserves the entire fourth quarter. But with James Harden scoring a career-high 24 points; D.J. White adding eight; Serge Ibaka grabbing nine rebounds; and Kyle Weaver scoring 11 in his 2008-09 debut, Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy got a little nervous. Down by as many as 30 points, OKC’s bench cut the lead to 94-76 with more than six minutes left. Van Gundy sent Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis to the scorer’s table but pulled them back when the Magic scored back-to-back baskets. "I got some shots to fall,” said Harden, who was 6-of-7 on 3-pointers. "I have confidence, and coach let me shoot the ball. I’ve put in extra work every day to make sure my mechanics are right. I also made a few minor adjustments. Sometimes your shot just doesn’t fall.”
LIVINGSTON OUT 3-4 WEEKSDuring Shaun Livingston’s arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday, Dr. James Andrews and Dr. Bill Clancy removed a loose anchor from his left knee. The anchor originally was placed in the knee during reconstruction surgery 2 1/2 years ago. Doctors said knee surfaces and previously repaired ligaments looked excellent. Livingston, who rejoined the team in Orlando, is expected to miss three to four weeks.
HECTIC SCHEDULEBecause of a hectic schedule — seven games in 11 days, five on the road — the Thunder will go an entire week without practicing. Brooks put the team through a pseudo practice at Tuesday’s shootaround in Miami. Because of the back-to-back games in Miami and Orlando, they didn’t have a shootaround on Wednesday. ... Having played four games in five nights in four cities, Brooks is giving players today off but plans to practice Saturday after OKC hosts Washington on Friday night.
