Berry Tramel: No excuses for this Sooner loss
LUBBOCK, Texas — What goes around, jumps around.
A football program that has spent many an autumn afternoon delivering pain was the recipient of the same Saturday at Jones Stadium.
The Sooners, hard-luck most of this 2009 season, were hard-up by the end of Texas Tech's 41-13 rout, when the Red Raiders were bopping to "Jump Around," the House of Pain song that rang through the night a year ago as OU whacked Tech 65-21 at Owen Field.
Embarrassed. That's what Oklahoma football was Saturday. Embarrassed.
Who says the Sooners — adorned in all-white uniforms and helmets for the first time in more than 40 years — didn't wear red?
It was all over their face.
"This is a bad one," said OU offensive tackle Trent Williams. "Worst I've ever experienced."
This was bad to the bone. Bad gameplanning. Bad preparation. Bad performance. Bad effort. Bad coaching. Bad ankle-taping, if the truth was known.
Bad everything except place-kicking. Patty O'Hara nailed two field goals, one a booming 47-yarder, so the Sooners couldn't even fall back on one of their excuses for a lackluster season.
"They had a chip on their shoulder," said OU d-end Jeremy Beal. "They kicked our butt.
"I don't think we gave up. But we didn't show up."
And suddenly, not only is 2009 a nuclear waste dump for OU football, 2010 looks a lot less rosy.
