NORMAN — Oklahoma's 27-0 Bedlam victory Saturday solidified Oklahoma State's bowl assignment. The Cowboys almost surely are Cotton Bowl bound.

Meanwhile, OU's assignment is not so clear, though the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, is the most likely destination.

Cotton Bowl officials have admitted coveting OSU, ideally against LSU. Ole Miss also could be in the running for the Cotton Bowl, scheduled for 1 p.m. Jan. 2 in Arlington, Texas.

Meanwhile, the Sooners could be headed to the Dec. 31 Sun Bowl against a Pac-10 team, perhaps Southern Cal or Arizona, the latter coached by Mike Stoops, brother of OU coach Bob Stoops.

However, the Jan. 2 Alamo Bowl could select 7-5 OU over 8-4 Texas Tech. OU never has played in the Alamo Bowl but was in San Antonio for the 2007 Big 12 championship game.

And if Nebraska upsets Texas next Saturday in the Big 12 title game, the Cornhuskers would qualify for a BCS bowl. The Holiday Bowl (Dec. 30 in San Diego) likely would invite the Sooners to play the Pac-10 runnerup.
