STILLWATER — You don’t get to where Cascia Hall is at without finding ways to win — especially when you’re not at your best.

In the first half of Friday’s Class 3A state championship football game against Berryhill, the Commandos were far from playing to their potential.

That was until Garrett Waller turned the tide. Sparked by Waller’s 3-yard fumble return for a touchdown, Cascia Hall shut out Berryhill 21-0 at Boone Pickens Stadium to win its third straight championship.

Cascia Hall has the state’s longest winning streak at 41 games.

"This is incredible. We never dreamed this was possible, but we kept fighting,” senior quarterback Stephen Rouse said. "We were a little nervous walking into this great stadium, but we got it together.”

On a night where Rouse and the Commandos’ passing game couldn’t get on track, the defense made sure the offense didn’t have to do too much.

Cascia (13-0) entered the game giving up eight points per game and saved its finest hour for the championship in registering its fourth shutout this season.

The Commandos’ defense recorded two sacks, intercepted two passes and recovered three fumbles. No play was bigger than Waller’s scoop and score late in the first half.

The game was scoreless with under three minutes left in the first half when Waller scored on the fumble return.
