SKIATOOK — The turning point for Saturday’s Class 2A semifinal came just a few minutes into the game.

It was second-and-goal from the 1 for Pawhuska. Three chances to rush a yard into the end zone. Three chances to score the first points of the game and establish early momentum against top-ranked Lincoln Christian.

"We let them get there,” Lincoln Christian defensive lineman Cameron Johnson said. "We had to do something to stop them.”

They did, stuffing three consecutive runs at the goal line. The Bulldogs’ offense answered with a touchdown and ran away to a 47-0 blowout win over No. 8 Pawhuska at Hap Dunlap Field.

Lincoln Christian (13-1) advances to next week’s state championship game.

The Bulldogs’ biggest play came early. Lincoln Christian tailback Matt Lawwill fumbled in his own territory, and Huskies defensive back Justin Garrison recovered at the 23. After two big runs, Pawhuska had a second-and-goal attempt at the 1.

"We’re there,” Johnson said. "We’ve got to do something about it.”

The Bulldogs’ defense stuffed one quarterback sneak on second down.

Then it snuffed another. Finally, Pawhuska (11-3) tried a rush up the middle but was stonewalled by a surge from Johnson and junior Grant Towry.
