Kingfisher senior is out of the Woods: Jordan's been a force on offense and defense

By ROBERT PRZYBYLO, Staff Writer, Published: December 8, 2009
KINGFISHER — Kingfisher senior Jordan Woods has had to learn the hard way about taking responsibility for his actions.

A casual approach to the end of last school year led to a disastrous start to this football season. Woods said he didn’t take school seriously in the final couple of weeks and was put on academic probation to start this year.

The punishment? Woods couldn’t suit up for the first three games of the season, including a Week 2 showdown with Tuttle. Without Woods and quarterback Derek Patterson, who was out with an injury, the Yellowjackets were no match for Tuttle.

"I just didn’t have my head on straight,” Woods said. "I let my team down and let myself down. I couldn’t wait to get back out there.”

Woods made his debut in Week 4, a win against Mount St. Mary, and his season has absolutely taken off from that point.

Whether it’s being the team’s leading receiver or having a nose for the ball on defense, Woods has had a major impact on both sides of the ball.

Though he was upset at himself for the early part of the season, it’s actually made him fresh coming down the stretch run.

"No, I don’t get tired at all,” Woods said. "This is my senior season, and I want to make sure I make it count.”

He has.

Woods has more than 1,000 yards receiving with 15 touchdowns.
