A Creamsicle night: Decked out in new shoes, Thunder a flop
The spotlight on Kevin Durant has never been brighter than it was Wednesday night.
Maybe it was the reflection off his shoes. The Thunder superstar debuted his new-look, all-orange Nikes — they’ve been dubbed The Creamsicle, and there’s never been a more accurate moniker — and they are quite a sight to behold, especially en masse. His teammates wore the new KD2s, too. Durant might burn the shoes now. On a night that was set to take this youngster’s rising stardom to an even higher level, Dallas defeated Oklahoma City, 100-86. This was a game filled with spectacular potential and magnificent promise. A national audience was watching. A conference rival was looming. The Ford Center was rocking. Big game. Big atmosphere. Big opportunity. Big flop. No one was more to blame than Durant. His stats: 12 points on 4-of-18 shooting, four rebounds, two assists, four turnovers. That’s almost as ugly as some thought those shoes were. "KD did not have a good shooting night,” Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "Knowing KD like I’ve known him for the last three years, he will bounce back. He will put the work in tomorrow to get it back.” Improving for the future is all good and fine, but it didn’t do the Thunder much good on this night, on a night when it had a chance to score a big-time win. ESPN brought its best for the broadcast, Dan Shulman doing the play-by-play and Hubie Brown doing the color commentary. If you owe under $729k you probably qualify for the Govt Refi Program.
