Ollie likely out of rotation once healthy
With rookie Eric Maynor now serving as the backup point guard, veteran Kevin Ollie probably won’t be in the rotation when he returns from arthroscopic knee surgery. Ollie has been sidelined three weeks.
Ollie hopes to return to practice next week but might be out longer than the original four-week estimate.
"That’s what I’m shooting for, but I couldn’t tell you definitely,” Ollie said. "I’m feeling good. I’m running close to full speed.”
Ollie can now mentor two young point guards, Maynor and second-year starter Russell Westbrook
"We have a great coaching staff and they’ll do most of the teaching,” Ollie said. "If (Maynor) does need any advice I’m willing to help him. He’s a great kid. I imagine he learned a lot in Utah, which has a great system.”
Charlotte enters tonight’s game ranked third-to-last in scoring at 91.2 points per game. Only Chicago (90.8 points) and New Jersey (89.6 points) score fewer on average.
The Bobcats, however, have two 18-point scorers in Stephen Jackson
and Gerald Wallace
, a pair of wing players who can score from inside and out. Wallace leads the league in minutes per game at 41, and at just 6-foot-7 ranks third in rebounding with 12.
