City crews in the Oklahoma City metro area continued work Monday to clear roads from last week’s winter storm, while officials warned residents that driving conditions remained less than ideal.

The storm even forced one metro community to recall its fleet of snowplows because of the poor conditions.

Many drivers in Canadian County had an easier time getting to work Monday morning, while crews continued to clear ice and snow from the roads, officials said.

In Mustang, although the main roadways were mostly clear, there were slick spots that occurred overnight when the melted snow froze, Police Capt. Willard James said.

"Motorists should still be very cautious because you can hit a section of ice and lose control,” he said. "The melting and refreezing will be an issue for a while, depending on what comes in next.”

The National Weather Service on Monday called for a 40 percent chance of snow today in Oklahoma City, a 50 percent chance of snow tonight and a 30 percent chance of snow Wednesday.

In Yukon, emergency workers used the city’s Connect-CTY system to notify residents which roads were closed during the snowstorm, police spokeswoman Klare Ly said.

The system allows residents to receive emergency notifications via telephone, cell phone text message or e-mail.

All major thoroughfares in Yukon were open Monday, and crews were working to clear the residential streets to make them passable, Ly said.

In Piedmont, traffic was reduced to one lane Monday on Waterloo Road while crews cleared the snow, Piedmont Police Chief Jerry Koester said.
