MIDWEST CITY—Carl Albert defensive back Tre Porter didn't want to wait until the last minute.

He didn't want drama.

But he also wanted to be deliberate and make sure he made the right decision.

And Porter feels like he made it by signing with Texas Tech on Wednesday morning.

He'd committed to the Red Raiders in July but reopened his recruiting after Mike Leach was fired in late December.

"I always liked the school and Lubbock," Porter said. "I was more concerned with the new coaching staff."

And on his final visit to Texas Tech, Porter became comfortable with new defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson.

"He just told me about the defensive play and I really liked the way things were laid out down there."

At the signing ceremony, Porter was decked out in Texas Tech gear and gave the large crowd at Carl Albert's field house the Red Raiders' "Guns up" hand sign.

Porter signed his official letter of intent just after 7 a.m. and said there was a huge sense of relief.
