More snow is headed toward Oklahoma
Light rain falling on much of the state Sunday night is expected to continue today, turning into snow in southwest and central Oklahoma by this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service predictions.
Winter storm conditions were expected to develop in northwest Oklahoma early today. Almost 7,000 homes and businesses remained without power Sunday afternoon from the Jan. 28 storm. That included about 800 in Altus, 2,000 served by Hollis-based Harmon Electric, 1,451 served by Binger-based Caddo Electric and 980 served by Lindsay-based Rural Electric. Those areas are expected to receive 1 to 3 inches of snow today and tonight. Snow accumulation could be highly variable, as thin, heavy bands are expected, the weather service said, with local totals more than 6 inches likely north and west of Oklahoma City. Snow totals are expected to be 1 to 3 inches south and east of Oklahoma City. Snow is expected to continue tonight in the Oklahoma City area, with an overnight low temperature of 17 degrees. Some sun and a high temperature just above freezing are expected Tuesday. A winter storm warning is in effect until 6 p.m. today for areas north of a line generally running from Elk City to Watonga to Stillwater to Tulsa. A winter storm watch is in effect until this afternoon for areas north of a line generally running from Altus to Lawton to Chickasha to Chandler.
