The University of Oklahoma will use its in-stadium video equipment to televise 20 home baseball games and seven home softball games on Cox channel 7 in Oklahoma City and Cox channel 3 in Tulsa, the university announced Thursday. The telecasts will be produced by the Sooner Sports Network.
The baseball telecasts will include audio from the OU radio broadcasts with play-by-play announcer Chuck Kelly and analyst DeWayne Vaughn. The first broadcast will be March 10 against Houston Baptist.
The past five seasons, OU has averaged eight telecasts a season.
"This is a win-win situation for everyone involved with our program,” OU baseball coach Sunny Golloway said in a news release. "It not only gives us another opportunity to showcase the tradition of Sooner baseball around the state, but it is a great opportunity for those fans who can’t make it to Norman to follow more games.”
OU will hire an announcer for softball telecasts, which begin March 3 for the Tulsa game.
"We are thrilled for the opportunity to showcase our program within the state,” said OU softball coach Patty Gasso.
OU upgraded to a three-camera system for its baseball videoboard last season, and has installed a softball videoboard this season.
