‘Rocklahoma’ changes tune for 2010 festival

The annual "Rocklahoma” music festival is no longer limiting itself to "hair metal” bands of the 1980s, adding acts from the ’90s to the present day for the revamped 2010 edition to be held Memorial Day weekend in Pryor, organizers announced on Tuesday.

The 1970s are well represented, too, considering this year’s headliner, ZZ Top, first broke out of Texas at the dawn of that decade.

"As lifelong residents of ‘Baja, Oklahoma,’ Dusty, Frank and I are looking forward to making the northward trek to Pryor in May,” ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons said in a news release.

The May 28-30 event in Pryor will still feature such ’80s favorites as Cinderella and Tesla, but the roster also includes such ’90s and double-aught decade bands as Godsmack, Saliva, Buckcherry, Chevelle, Stone Sour, Theory of a Deadman and Saving Abel, as well as Oklahoma bands Aranda and Taddy Porter.

"Rocklahoma” was established in 2007 as a classic rock festival, but organizers are expanding the musical mix to attract a broader audience, organizers said. The outdoor event has been held in July in years past, but the Memorial Day weekend weather should afford more comfortable temperatures, officials said.

Three-day passes start at $95 and will go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m., exclusively at www.rocklahoma.com.

Camping add-ons, VIP packages, and seat upgrades also will be offered at the time of purchase.

A full list of amenities, including VIP camping spots, reserved concert seating, and unlimited, all-inclusive food and drink, can also be found on the Web site.

The festival site is located 45 minutes northeast of Tulsa, on Pryor’s Catch the Fever Festival Grounds.
