The Q&A: OU wrestler Kyle Terry
Jenni Carlson: Defending Big 12 champion. That’s how you go into this weekend’s Big 12 Tournament. What’s that like?
Kyle Terry: I don’t see it as any pressure. I’ve been wrestling well all year. I’ve wrestled all these guys many times throughout my career. I’m pretty confident going into this weekend.
JC: You guys will be wrestling in Norman. Is there such a thing as a home-mat advantage?
KT: Oh, yeah. I’m excited about it, this being my last year and getting to wrestle on my home mat. I know I’ve got a lot of people coming to watch ... a lot more than usual because it’s here. It’d be a great way to go out, winning a title here.
JC: I have to ask about your nickname — Rattlesnake. Where did that start?
KT: Oh, man. That started probably two years ago. (OU assistants) Jeremy Spates and Michael Lightner came up with that. We were just in practice one day, and that just came out. I didn’t think it would stick, but it has. That’s what they still call me. Kind of funny how that worked out.
JC: Kind of sounds like you were hoping it wouldn’t stick.
KT: Oh, no. I like it. (Laughs.)
JC: Your brother’s on the team, too.
