Route 66 may show Oklahoma at its best

If you’re like me, you enjoy a little jaunt on State Highway 66, one of the most historic roads in America. It may not look quite like it did years ago when it was known as Route 66. The sights may have changed, but it’s still fun to travel on one of our country’s best known roadways. Going east or west, you can find things of interest.

At the intersection of "old” Highway 66 and Hiawassee Road, a yellow caution sign was placed east of the intersection warning westbound drivers to slow down. I think this is a good idea. However, I was wondering if the (Oklahoma Department of Transportation) had simply removed the red cedar trees growing in the right-of-way on the south side of Highway 66, would the sign still have been needed?

ODOT’s Cole Hackett asked about this. Here’s what he found out: "I checked with our traffic engineers about (Jerry’s) question regarding the reason for the yellow warning sign on westbound SH 66 east of Hiawassee Road in Edmond.
