Five-year strategic plan to take priority of State Chamber leader

Q: What has been the biggest surprise to you?

A: The number of areas of economic development and business survival that The State Chamber members and our staff not only touch but to which we also provide leadership, resources and advocacy. Our staff provides the expertise on many areas impacting Oklahoma jobs.

Q: What’s the number one goal you want to accomplish in your first year?

A: Creating a five-year strategic plan for improving Oklahoma’s economy. We need to improve the per capita income of all Oklahomans and I believe that creating a "Blueprint for Economic Success” will help us achieve that goal.

Q: You have been a legislator and worked the last few years as a Senate adviser. Are there things that you think the Legislature may or may not be considering when it comes to jobs?

A: The Legislature needs to have a litmus test every time they consider a bill: Does this proposed law encourage jobs? Does it provide entrepreneurs the opportunity to grow and prosper? Does it allow the business owner the freedom of choice (to succeed or fail)? Does it help small businesses in their efforts to create jobs and make a profit? Does it increase the chances of social mobility, allowing any citizen the opportunity to improve their lives? Does it improve the quality of life in our communities? Does it provide for a progressive, growing economy? Does it fulfill the promise of the American dream?

Q: What are the biggest threats facing Oklahoma’s economy both inside the state and nationally?

A: Rules, regulations and litigation that stifle the growth of jobs, free markets and entrepreneurial spirit.
