When John Estus informed me last month that his daytime life as a hard-news reporter was impinging on his ability to effectively guide LOOKatOKC readers through the wilds of the city’s music scene, the prospect of losing such a sharp observer/participant felt like cold steel through the lower intestines. Fearlessness is in short supply, and we all need people who are willing to tell the truth without flinching, even when it might cause a few hundred Camera Obscura fans to mope a bit. He probably risked more with his earlier assessment of both Insane Clown Posse and its followers, but Estus had the truth and the city’s parole officers on his side.
