Teresa DuBoise looked around her house in wonder as workmen took on the task of protecting her and her daughter from the chilly winds of winter and blasts of summer heat.

To apply for program

• To apply for weatherization assistance, residents of Oklahoma or Canadian counties should call 232-0199, ext. 1409.

• Residents of other counties in the state may call (866) 933-4203 to find out how to contact their area’s Community Action Agency weatherization program.

"It’s wonderful,” said DuBoise, whose southeast Oklahoma City home had just been fitted with sturdy new exterior doors. A stack of new double-paned windows awaited installation outside.

DuBoise, who lives on retirement income and a little money from doing alterations, is getting free weatherization improvements through the Community Action Agency of Oklahoma City and Oklahoma and Canadian counties.

She learned about the agency’s program at a neighborhood association meeting and asked, "Do you think I can apply?”

DuBoise hopes the weatherization effort will help lower her energy bills.
