The stained sidewalk was reported near the intersection of NE 2 and Oklahoma Avenue about 8 a.m., Oklahoma City police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said.
Detectives investigated, but determined the substance was not real blood. A couple hours later, detectives eyed a group of people dressed like zombies downtown, Wardlow said.
"We learned that it’s a group of kids who basically dress up like zombies and just so happened to be down in that area. They had fake blood all down their faces, chins and hands,” Wardlow said.
No crimes were committed and no citations were issued in the incident.
A group called Zombie Walk OKC sponsors zombie walks, where participants dress as zombies and walk around downtown areas in Oklahoma City and Norman. The meeting point for the Mayday Zombie Walk on Saturday was NE 2 and Oklahoma Avenue, according to www.zombiewalkokc.com.
