Kate Leary spent most of her childhood moving from place to place, spending time in Boston, Minnesota, Texas and New York -- an enthusiastic amateur singer before attending the University of Oklahoma.
After spending the summer in Italy following her senior year, Leary saw a "musician wanted" ad in the newspaper, and soon she was working with Charlie Rayl on her debut album, "Can't Stop Dreaming."Before she found her footing as a lyricist, Leary, who graduated with a degree in letters at OU, said she was an intense karaoke enthusiast."I got a karaoke machine when I was probably in third or fourth grade," Leary said. "I can't even imagine what I did to my poor friends, because they'd come over and all I'd ever want to do is sing songs."Writing her own songs only came recently, but the torrent of material that came forward for "Can't Stop Dreaming" is indicative of Leary's focus once she dedicated herself to the process. Having attracted a loyal local following, Leary is now trying to extend her reach regionally and, eventually, to a national stage. "Just between here, Texas, Kansas and Missouri," Leary said. "Just to get the word out."-- George Lang
