Lancaster finishes perfect season
Bishop McGuinness senior Mia Lancaster had been untouchable at No. 1 singles all season, but she faced a bit of an unknown heading into the championship.

Lancaster was facing Duncan’s Melanie Barnes for the first time but earned the win and the title, beating Barnes 6-1, 6-1.

"She was very good. I knew it would be tough, but I felt good and knew I just had to play my game,” Lancaster said.

The win made Lancaster a three-time undefeated state champion. The only reason she couldn’t make it four in a row was she lived in Texas her freshman year and won state there, too.

The Irish swept the board in 5A as the ‘forgotten’ pair of junior Ashleigh Chiaf and Abby Hodges also claimed the title. It is Chiaf’s third championship.

Carl Albert duo takes third
There were some questions about the seeding of the No. 1 doubles, but the Carl Albert team of seniors Sallie McLaurin and Laura Miller came through.

The pair was seeded third, and that was exactly where they placed, winning a three-set battle with Tulsa Edison’s Haley Martin and Abby Tolson.

McLaurin and Miller lost the first set 6-0 but bounced back beautifully. The girls won two tight sets for the victory.

The Titans placed sixth in the team race.

Duncan takes second
Paced by runner-up finishes at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, Duncan easily placed second.

"We played very well as a team. I’m very proud of our effort,” coach Phil Barnes said.

Duncan was third at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles.
