Some wonder whether roofers can handle the workload

Hail storm puts more pressure on competition between homebuilders and roofers for subcontractors.

Some local roofers privately wondered whether local businesses could handle all the repair work after Sunday’s hailstorm.

Derek Lindsey, owner of Houston-based Infinity Roofing & Restoration, said it: Oklahoma City needs his Infinity Roofing & Restoration, which hired a small plane to fly a banner with the company’s name and phone number on it over hard-hit areas.

"There’s not enough local contractors to deal with all this,” he said, noting that Infinity can pull in subcontractors from the five other states where it has locations.

Plenty of offers
There are plenty of subcontractors available here, although competition for them between roofers and builders, already heightened because of last week’s tornadoes, grew more intense Sunday, said Mark Dale, president of the Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association.

Dale said custom builders, in the aftermath, were getting calls from old customers they hadn’t heard from in years because they didn’t know whom else to trust in the chaos.
