NBA Draft diary: Daniel Orton talks Thunder, his knee

BY BRANDON CHATMON, Staff Writer, Published: June 18, 2010
Daniel Orton has gone from a three-time state champion at Bishop McGuinness to a Jordan All-American to a role player off the bench for top-ranked Kentucky to a potential NBA lottery pick. During the month of June, he has agreed to do a journal for the Oklahoman.

During the second edition of Daniel Orton's NBA Draft Journal, the former McGuinness star talks about his workout with the Oklahoma City Thunder, concerns about his knee and how last year's No. 1 pick Blake Griffin compares to this year's No. 1 pick John Wall.

I thought my Thunder workout went well. I shot the ball well. Didn't perform my best in the one-on-one session but passed well in two-on-two and really enjoyed myself being around the Thunder staff. There are rumors that the Thunder have promised me something and they haven't. I discontinued my workouts for other reasons. I have to say though, the Thunder staff is a very positive and energetic staff; they were fun to be around and interesting to talk to. I want to thank them for everything, especially my experience with them here in Oklahoma.

As far as questions about my knee, my knee has been X-rayed, MRI-ed and everything checked out perfectly fine.

I would love to go to the Thunder at 21 but I don't at all think I'll be around. I know other teams that have very high interest in me also.

You can tell a team is really interested when they interview you more in-depth. You have to fill out more forms. They'll keep you longer on your visits or ask you to come back.

The toughest competition I've had during workouts is probably Larry Sanders.
