Super 30: Oklahoma offer puts Duncan's Dominique Petties on map

DUNCAN — One offer is all it takes. Getting seen by the right scout at the right time is sometimes all that differentiates one recruit from another.

For Duncan defensive back Dominique Petties, that time was mid-January and that offer was from Oklahoma.

There's no question Petties was receiving interest from some top schools and even had an offer from Texas Tech, but an offer from the Sooners got everyone's attention about how good Petties really is.

It's been a much-needed silver lining in what have been a tumultuous couple of years for Petties and his family.

Petties grew up in Del City, but after some family troubles after his sophomore season, the family moved to Duncan.

Petties declined to comment on the family issues but said he is still trying to adjust to everything.

"It was a huge shock (moving from Del City to Duncan), I mean everything was just so different," Petties said. "It was tough to leave some of my friends behind, but the people in Duncan are so nice."

As a junior, Petties showed glimpses of what makes him such a sought-after recruit and why he is No. 6 on The Oklahoman's top 30 football recruits for 2011.

He finished the season with 73 tackles and six interceptions to go with four rushing touchdowns.
