District C-1 football preview: Forgan hopes for another deep playoff run

Last season Forgan made it to the Class C semifinals and will be trying to make another playoff run in 2010. A team that returns six offensive and seven defensive starters will be more experienced after going deep into the playoffs last year.

Senior linebacker Taylor Eagan should be a big factor. The 6-foot, 220-pound Eagan had 196 tackles last season.

"He has been starting for our team since his freshman year," said coach Doug Howles. "He's an outstanding player."

Howles said the Bulldogs are strongest on the offensive and defensive lines but that his team lacks depth and a high quality running game.

Balko's Watson seeking first win

Coach Ronnie Watson and Balko went 0-9 last season, Watson's first on the job.

The Bison were shut out five times, but did score two or more touchdowns three times.

Watson now has a more experienced offense with skill positions players who have been in his system for a full season.

Senior receiver Kolby Stephens had 25 receptions last year and played some defensive back.

"We are strongest at wide receiver and quarterback," Watson said. "But our offensive and defensive line needs to improve."

Shattuck looks to rebound

Shattuck set the national eight-man winning streak record with their 93rd straight win last season. The problem was their final victory of the season was in an unfamiliar place — the first round of the playoffs.

After winning six straight state titles, the Indians' 16-12 loss to Deer Creek-Lamont was a heartbreaker for Shattuck fans and coaches. The streak was the third longest overall in high school football history.

Shattuck was the unanimous pick to finish on top of District C-1 by district coaches.
