Edmond robotics camp teaches problem solving and creative design

After a bit of a shaky start, the robot followed its path, sweeping up "moon rocks" and successfully moving them to the pulverizing area. Massive cheering erupted.

Fifth-, sixth- and seventh-grade robotics campers spent the week programming software and designing team robots. Friday morning, they trained for a competition, where their robots would have to perform 10 different tasks. They showed off their skills to their parents Friday afternoon.

Robotics teaches students problem-solving and creative design, Edmond Santa Fe High School teacher Randy Blackwood said.

"It also builds their confidence to tackle things they don't know how to do," he said.

Camper Austin Yother, 11, called the camp "awesome, epic and legendary."

Orion Wafford, 11, said he liked "the awesome mechanics and robots."

Evan Jones, 11, said the camp is "so fun. It's awesome. I like how you watch your robot and it's like go, go, go."
