Edmond BMX star Mat Hoffman paid a high price in giving birth to the "big air" events that now are showcased at ESPN 's X Games .
With a battered body that is 38 going on 60, Hoffman has been in a coma twice, suffered 21 broken bones, underwent 23 surgeries, suffered more than 100 concussions and received more than 300 stitches.
