$6.2M approved for research

About $6.2 million will be available this year for grants to fund research projects in the state. The board of investors for Oklahoma's Economic Development Generating Excellence program approved the amount Tuesday. The money comes from earnings from the program's endowment fund, which as of Monday was $153.1 million. A percentage of interest earnings goes to fund research proposals. Twelve applications are up for consideration. Grants will be awarded later this year. This will be the third year research projects will be funded with the endowment earnings. Areas of investment are agriculture, aerospace, biotechnology, energy, information technology and telecommunications, nanotechnology, sensors and weather science.
