— Oklahoma's Austin Box doesn't know what it's like to make it through a year without an injury.

2010 won't be the year he finds out, either.

Tuesday, Bob Stoops confirmed the junior linebacker from Enid is expected to miss three to six weeks with a "disc issue" in his back.

Box played in OU's scrimmage Saturday without any problems. But the next day, his back flared up and he had to go to the hospital.

"Austin had been playing well," said defensive coordinator Brent Venables. "He had a terrific offseason. He had a good scrimmage. Didn't get hurt in the scrimmage. He's frustrated. He's invested a lot in this program.

"But he'll battle back. Sounds like something to be optimistic, that it's a manageable situation. He just needs a little bit of time to fight through it."

Before the injury, Box was fighting with redshirt freshman Tom Wort for the starting job at middle linebacker. Now, he'll have to fight just to get back on the field.
