— History: Deaconess Hospital is a 313-bed, full-service acute care facility founded in 1900 as the Home of Redeeming Love.


— The hospital is known for its cardiac, cancer, orthopedics, rehabilitation and wound care. The hospital was one of the metro's first with TomoTherapy, a state of the art treatment that targets cancer with the accuracy of a pinpoint. It was also an early adopter of high-definition endoscopy to help doctors detect lesions in the gastrointestinal tract.

— Other specialties include a birth center, sleep disorders treatment, in-patient mental health care, weight loss, nutrition and robotic surgery.

— The Open Arms Free Clinic provides basic medical care at no charge for people not currently under a physician's care. The clinic is a first-come, first-served clinic staffed by volunteers. The clinic, located at 5013 N Meridian Ave., opens at 4 p.m. each Thursday.
