Call it play with a purpose.

Edmond moms with infants and toddlers turn out Tuesdays for the Lapsit: Playtime and Story Time class at the Edmond Public Library at 10 S Boulevard.

Librarian Mary Ann Johnson said as many as 55 moms and their children attend the classes.

"It's a time to help children develop play interaction," Johnson said. "It's also a time moms, grandmothers or nannies can learn to play with a child."

Playtime with the toys is followed by circle time emphasizing group participation, movement and early literacy skills, Johnson said.

"The class is very popular and well received," Johnson said.
