NORMAN — When discussing the Del City offense last season, there were three names always mentioned: quarterback Chazten Gonzales and wide receivers Donavan Dan and Chris McAlister.
Gonzales was still searching for his primary options last week in the 2010 season opener with Dan and McAlister graduated.
He's not searching anymore.
Gonzales hooked up with wide receivers Marquis Walters and Greg Johnson repeatedly in a 41-14 victory against Norman North on Thursday at Harve Collins Field.
Gonzales threw two touchdowns to Walters and two more to Johnson and was seemingly in his rhythm from the opening kickoff.
Gonzales finished the game with 533 total yards and a career-high five touchdown passes. He threw for 405 yards.
"Marquis and Greg mentioned to me ... what they were doing and saw how Norman North was playing," Gonzales said. "We saw we could take advantage of some things, and we did."
Del City coach Nick Warehime knew what he had in Gonzales heading into this season. Now he knows what he has in Johnson and Walters.
"The chemistry is there with both of those guys," Gonzales said. "I've been playing with them since junior high. They've earned that right to be out there. We put in a lot of work this summer."
