NORMAN — Going into the season, many in Sooner Nation wondered if Landry Jones was in fact the quarterback that could take Oklahoma to a championship.

After Jones completed less than half his passes in an uninspiring opening-game performance, more joined in the wondering.

After Saturday, the Landry Jones bandwagon might have to start turning people away.

With an open playbook, Jones silenced his critics Saturday with his finest game as a Sooner quarterback, outplaying Florida State counterpart Christian Ponder in a 47-17 whipping of the No. 17-ranked Seminoles.

"This is what we expect of him," said linebacker Travis Lewis. "He's a great quarterback. Not a good one.

"A great one."

Jones certainly was great against Florida State.

With precision passing, he led the Sooners to touchdowns on their first four possessions.

During that stretch, he completed 16 of 19 passes, capped when he found tight end James Hanna streaking down the field for a 46-yard touchdown that put the Sooners up 27-7.

"I felt like I was locked in to all my reads," Jones said.

In the first half alone, Jones finished with 321 passing yards, the second-most in school history behind only Sam Bradford's 350 in the first half of a 79-10 win over North Texas in 2007.

As bad as Florida State's defenders were Saturday, they weren't North Texas bad.
