Local author/psychologist receives prestigious awards for her books for military youth

Michelle Sherman, of Oklahoma City, has received the Military Writers Society of America Gold Medal for 2010 for her book, Finding My Way: A Teen’s Guide to Living with a Parent Who Has Experienced Trauma.

Michelle Sherman, of Oklahoma City, has received the Military Writers Society of America Gold Medal for 2010 for her book, Finding My Way: A Teen’s Guide to Living with a Parent Who Has Experienced Trauma.

She also received the 2010 Gold Award for Excellence from the Young Voices Foundation for her newest book, My Story: Blogs by Four Military Teens. The books took top honors in the Young Adult category.

Sherman, a psychologist and professor at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center, writes books for teens in her personal life with her mother, DeAnne Sherman, a teacher.
